Good Milling Performance with Minimal Chipping

Dr. Young-tae Kim (Chiasarang Dental Clinic), User of HASS Amber Mill H
HASS Co., Ltd., a manufacturer specializing in dental glass-ceramic materials, has recently attracted attention with the launch of its hybrid ceramic block, Amber Mill H.
We met with Dr. Young-tae Kim of Chiasarang Dental Clinic in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, to learn more about the characteristics and advantages of Amber Mill H.
A Hybrid Material Combining Nano-Crystalline Ceramic and Polymer
Hybrid blocks generally refer to milling materials composed of ceramic combined with resin polymer.
Depending on the composition of the ceramic and resin components and the bonding technology used, these materials may be categorized as hybrid ceramics or hybrid resins.
Amber Mill H is manufactured using a proprietary bonding technology that combines nano-crystalline ceramic particles with polymer.
The use of nano-crystalline ceramic improves milling performance, allowing precise micro-machining and enabling accurate marginal reproduction.
In addition, Amber Mill H offers high light transmittance, enhancing esthetics through natural opalescence and fluorescence, while also enabling strong initial bonding during resin cement light curing.
The material has also demonstrated high strength in various physical property tests.
Unlike many hybrid blocks that require manufacturer-specific surface pretreatment protocols, Amber Mill H maintains strong adhesion regardless of the pretreatment method, whether acid etching or sandblasting is used on the internal surface of the restoration.
Preference for Domestic Products
Dr. Kim first encountered HASS products at a dental exhibition.
“I generally prefer domestic products,” he explained.
“In the past, there were limited options for locally manufactured ceramic blocks, so I sometimes had to use imported products.
However, compared with the past, the quality of Korean ceramic blocks has improved significantly, and I often recommend them to colleagues.”
Dr. Kim added that he has used Rosetta BM, a leucite-based product from HASS, since its early release.
He also explained that his interest in hybrid blocks grew because they can effectively cover contact areas and discoloration cases.
Wide Range of Indications

Dr. Kim has been using Amber Mill H since its early launch and highlighted several advantages.
“It can be used for a wide range of indications, including crowns and inlays.
Another major advantage is that no crystallization heat treatment is required, and its excellent milling performance means chipping rarely occurs during milling.”
When selecting hybrid blocks, Dr. Kim considers three main factors:
Appropriate mechanical properties for patients
Compatibility with milling equipment
Natural shade reproduction
Clinical Tips for Using Amber Mill H

Dr. Kim also shared practical tips for efficiently using Amber Mill H.
“When the preparation has many curves, lowering the margin slightly during the design stage helps achieve a cleaner result,” he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of preparation design:
“Angles should be rounded rather than sharp to ensure optimal outcomes.”
Acid Etching Possible During Cementation
Dr. Kim noted another advantage during the cementation process.
“Hybrid blocks are often believed to require sandblasting during cementation,” he said.
“However, with Amber Mill H, acid etching can also be used without compromising bonding strength.”
He added that esthetic performance is an important factor, and products that offer a wide range of shades, like Amber Mill H, provide greater convenience for clinicians.
Growing Interest in the Hybrid Block Market
Dr. Kim also mentioned that HASS plans to actively introduce Amber Mill H to markets where hybrid materials are particularly popular, such as Korea and Japan.
“I expect the product to attract significant attention through various promotional activities,” he said.
He concluded by expressing hope for the growth of domestic manufacturers:
“I hope more clinicians will support Korean manufacturers so they can continue expanding in the global market.”
